I saw these in the runningdvds.com videos and quickly brought them into my teams workouts… maybe once every 2 weeks I will have a group get in the gym, get a partner and toss a nice rubbery med ball to their partner using the throws you just showed… (i hope that made sense).

The feedback from the kids is that it is easy, & fun but they are a little sore the next day. That tells me it is doing something. I think it is a great way to make use of a lot of smaller muscles that running doesn't work. The back, the arms and the shoulders all get a nice workout from this routine.

As we move outside, I can transition the team onto shots or up the weight of the medball…

    Thanks again

“the feedback from the kids is that it is easy and fun but they are a little sore then next day.”

What a fantastic example of sound pedagogy and sound athletic development.

Just an opinion, but too often I think coaches – regardless of level and athletic age of the athletes they work with – too quickly assign workouts and exercises that they learned at a clinic or watched on some former DI coache's web site.

Vern Gambetta is always talking about FUNdamentals and I think Rich hits the nail on the head here – kids should work and kids should be sore many days a year, but kids should also have a blast at practice.

Kudos to you Rich and thanks for the comment.

How do you fit this into the training program? Is this part of an easy day at the end or before a run, a separate workout outside of a running session, or maybe even part of a warmup.

I bought that book yesterday. I also have never read 'The Kite Runner' and bought that also, The Kite Runner is taking most of my time right now, but this book by Gambetta does look real good.
