Live to fight another day

Sara ran well in the first round of the 800m last night at the USATF meet in Eugene. She runs again tonight and you can watch it live here. Renee ran the 1,500m and didn’t run the last 200m well, yet she runs the 5,000m tonight. In both cases I’m sure some you might think these race choices are odd. “Why the eight and not the fifteen for Sara?” Or, “Why would Renee run a race the night before her primary event, the five?” I will discuss this in detail in a post this weekend…assuming they race well and it’s of interest.

Hey Jay, I'm sure most of us are very interested in knowing the reasoning behind the choice of races and when. I'm also sure that most of us that coach are also thinking long term with our athletes and look to develop the strength and speed it will take for our athletes to compete at a higher level every year. Wish I could be in Eugene but we've got USATF Junior Olympic qualifying rounds this weekend, got to be there for that. Thanks for all the suggestions and helping me help my athletes to the next level.

  • Wow -- great finish by Sara!
I'm sure a number of folks would be interested to know your thoughts on choosing races, and how that changes over a career.
