Coaches – check out this site

It’s really, really good. You need to join their “media on demand” section to get their free podcasts, but trust me, it’s worth it. I’ve listened to a two part interview with Vince Anderson five or six times and every time I get something new out of it. Same with the two John Cook interviews. I’ve only listened to Frans Bosch‘s second interview two or three times, but I think about it every day I’m at the track. Plus, Mike Smith has a great interview as well where he reinforces many of the concepts in the DVD series.

This web site is a time suck…and it’s a time suck that will make you better. It takes an hour to listen to an interview, yet the concepts are fully fleshed out by these thoughtful, intelligent and creative coaches.

Finally, thanks to Jim Denison for his time via email correspondence earlier in the year.

How do you download the audio interviews to your iPod? I was only able to get it on QuickTime, even when I clicked download. Great website, killed at least 30 minutes at school when I should have been working...

I always just right clicked the link on the website and "Save Target As" and then imported it into my iTunes once it was downloaded.
  • In quicktime there is an arrow on the right side of the "status bar" - if you click on that is will ask you to "save as source" and then you can save it. With the older version of Quicktime I think you needed quicktime pro to do that, but not with the new version. Or, you can choose "open in iTunes" and then I think it gets added to your iTunes library. Hope that works and to others out there, feel free to hop in with your methods of download/saving.
  • Jay, here is another link to bookmark - http://coaching.uka.org.uk. Kevin Tyler, now working for UK Athletics tries to establish a similar resource for coaches in the UK. A bit early days, I am sure more interesting content will follow soon.
  • I enjoyed this video - http://coaching.uka.org.uk/video/england-athletics-coaching-using-an-involving-style/from-filter/

Thanks for the link - much appreciated!

Jay, I've periodically been visiting that site for a couple years now, I have all the interviews on my iPod and listen to them on the way home from my meets. One of these days I'll be able to sit down and take notes on all of them and it will prove to be one of my most valuable resources. The interviews are amazing, I'm glad you find them so insighful as well.
  • I plan to do the same, especially with the Vince Anderson interview because there are at least five and maybe ten points he makes that are important for distance coaches...even though he discussing sprint/hurdle events.

Thanks for the comment and glad to hear that this important resource is being used by others.
