Colorado Track Coahes Clinic 2010

I have the honor of speaking at the Colorado High School Track and Cross Country Coaches Clinic tonight. John Hancock of Mullen HS has arguably the best list of speakers of any state clinic.

I will post all slides and pertinent links in the coming days, but I wanted to share this video for anyone with 10 free minutes.

To those that attended the clinc, I wanted to say in Jay's defense: he was right about the rest interval of my workout; it was 30 minutes!

The workout was about 10 days before the state meet, and we were trying to assure two of our girls that they could run the 4x800/400 prelim double. At our state meet, they're about an hour apart.

So, we ran an all-out 600, took 30 minutes, then ran an all-out 300, the thought being, if they can do that with 30 miuntes, they'd be fine with a full hour. The workout went great as did the meet.

If we needed any more affirmation as to how good a coach Jay is, the fact that he knew our workout better than I did should suffice.

Jay, I'm sure the answer to this is contained elsewhere on the site, but, besides the LM, what other non-running stuff do you consider "essential" that is also easy to implement with HS athletes?

mnort raises a good question -- how to set priorities when you don't have three hours for a workout? Say you have the girls for 1.5 hours, max.
  • Coach Peter
Is he doing Wharton Stretching stuff towards the end?

Awesome video, Jay! That was really cool (and nice music, too).

I'd be interested to hear about Dennis Mitchell's "training ideas."
