Injuries and Injury prevention with Dr. Richard Hansen

Simple question: What questions do you have regarding injuries and injury prevention?

Tomorrow I hope to spend some time with Dr. Richard Hansen at his clinic in Boulder. While we have plenty to talk about, he has agreed to answer some questions from the readership. So feel free to submit a question in the comments section or by email. I can’t guarantee will get to all of them, but we can definitely answer a few.

    Great opportunity here Jay, thanks for extending this to your readers and to Dr. Hansen for answering. While I'm not injured, I have a chronically tight IT Band. I just ran 2:39 at the Philly Marathon and am just getting back into running. Despite everything I know about ITBS (I've had it before and feel like I learned a ton seeing PT's and a lot of research), I can't knock the tightness in my glute/hip. I've worked on glute strength and hip mobility – what other things can help treat ITBS?

    I am seeing athletes that have pain in the front of their knee, just below the knee cap. I am looking for advice on what muscles to strengthen/stretch to help prevent this… (if its even a muscle issue)… i know thats vague but I would love any insight… thanks

    I've pulled my left hamstring slightly and it has been now nearly a full month and i have notice little to no healing. i took a solid week of, took 3 weeks of reduced mileage and have been doing running specific drills to help loosen and strengthening exercises as well. What am i missing here?

    Most common cause of running injuries (besides over-training or too quickly increasing training). What muscle imbalancs are most commonly causing runners to get injured and what exercises would help prevent these injuries (besides the LM, myrtle and other great workouts on the DVD's)

    Coach Jay and Dr. Hansen – Do either of you recommend different methods/strategies for preventing injuries in say, a runner training at 25 miles a week vs. someone in the 100s?  What about a novice wanting to lose 10-15lbs?  Thanks in advance!

    Where does stretching (static or active isolated flexiblity) fit in for injury prevention/treatment?  Some magazines write a million articles about it while some esteemed coaches never even mention it.

    How do injury prevention strategies differ for novice runners with high levels of cardio fitness (say a cyclist or swimmer) versus novices that lack fitness all-around.

    I am coaching a runner right now who has high arches and is constantly working with an osteopathic Doctor to correct her foot issues after long races.  He has asked her to run the races in her trainer with more support but being a fairly competitive female runner she has no desire to race in the heavier shoe.  The doctor has explained to her that the novicular bone drops and her talus gets stuck.  What can be done to correct or at least limit this problem?
