“How do I know if I’m running the right way?”

When you’re running a track workout, threshold run, long run, etc., you should be able to say one of the following:

“I could have run a bit faster.”

or

“I could have run a bit farther.”

If you can’t say either of those things then you’re probably running too hard.  Remember what Arthur Lydiard said, “Train, Don’t Strain.”

…more on how to run Hard, but Controlled when doing Long Runs, Progression Runs and track workouts.

Coach Jay, does this apply to fast finish long runs when building for a marathon? And marathon pace runs? When the goal is to run on tired legs to simulate the later portion of the marathon?
