Three Ways To Help Your Runners PR This Week

Hello!

I hope you and your athletes are doing well and that they are ready to have their best races of the year this week.

Three things to keep in mind, the most important being:

1. Keep instructions/race plans short and simple.

They’re fit and ready to go, and they know how to be uncomfortable. Don’t complicate things with complicated instructions.

…that said…

2. Remind them that if they want to do things they’ve never done before, they must endure more discomfort than they did a month ago.

They can do this, yet some athletes get nervous when you remind them of this fact, so when you explain this one, be positive, upbeat, and reassuring.

3. Remind them that “extra” or “different” in terms of sleep and nutrition isn’t what they need to have their best races of the year.

They simply need to keep the same routines they’ve been doing in April and May.

“But Jay, you’re always telling us to tell them to get more sleep?”

That’s true, yet in the final week or two of the year, it could be stressful to add “I’ve got to get 30 more minutes of sleep!” to their to-do list. Of course they shouldn’t sleep less in these final weeks, but I wouldn’t make “get extra sleep” a key message.

Bottom line: Keep things simple this week and keep your messages (and pep talks) short.

Two Week Plan Between Track and Summer XC Training

I’m sharing this today, though I know many of your athletes have meets ahead of them. But when the time comes take a few minutes to read this article:

Here’s the article and here’s the PDF.

If you have questions, simply respond to this email, and I’ll get back to you promptly.

Let’s go!

PS – If you’re already starting to look at summer training, here are all the FREE cross country articles and PDFs you’ll need this summer and fall.

And after track I’ll share with you the updated post-run videos that you and your kids can watch on your phones. Those will be free as well.

And the first week of June we'll talk about cross country training. I'll have free training to share, as well as one-time bonuses for you if you decide to enroll in the XC Training System.
